Although I found the mouse-driven movements hard to do, and the game lacks the charm of Virgin Mastertronic's 1989 Clue Master Detective, this modern update is still a very faithful one that brings the fun of Clue to a new generation of PC gamers.
Clue: Murder at Boddy Mansion lets you play the part of a detective attempting to solve the mystery of who killed Mr. Boddy. As in the original board game it's based upon, you make suggestions to narrow down the options. When enough facts are gathered, you make a definitive accusation. Accuse correctly, and the criminal gets brought to justice. Misjudge your facts, and you’ll lose face, credibility, and the game.
Players select from either a third-person perspective of the mansion, rendered in exquisite detail, or the classic board view. In the former, you watch the characters meander about the mansion with an aura or attitude about them that truly represents their personality. Exploring the various rooms brings rewards of some unique and lighthearted animations. Once you’ve experienced this view a few times, you’ll most likely migrate to the overhead game view, an exact replica of the one included in the board game version.
An on-screen notebook displays the different facts, gathered from suggestions, at a glance. It can stay in view at all times or be toggled when needed to narrow down the suspect possibilities.
